We are class 5c of the Reineke-Fuchs-Grundschule, class 4b of the Grundschule am Insulaner, the Welcome class of the Ludwig-Hoffmann-Grundschule in Berlin, and class 3e of the Louise-Schroeder-Schule in Hamburg. Together with students from Cairo, Marrakech, and Windhoek, we discovered, tried out, and created a lot. Four school newspapers were produced: “The World of Foxes”, “Insulaner News”, “The Hoffmann-Post” and “Louise News”. And from the contributions of our school newspapers, a joint newspaper has now been created, the “We Discover the World” — with stories, information, and ideas from children for children.

In the “We Discover the World” newspaper, it is all about the Sustainable Development Goals, also called SDGs. These are goals for a better and fairer world—for example, protecting nature, treating each other fairly, and living well together. We thought about climate protection, considered what our future should look like, and learned what CO₂ has to do with the climate. An absolute highlight was a live interview with real researchers who were working at the Neumayer III research station in Antarctica. It was incredible: we were able to ask them questions directly and learn how they live there, what they measure, and how they can tell that the climate is changing. We also conducted an interview with May Evers from Plan International.
You will also learn a lot about children’s rights. We asked ourselves: What do children need to feel well? We researched, wrote reports, and took a closer look at why children’s rights are so important all over the world. The exchange with children in other countries was especially exciting: we spoke in video conferences with students from the Assadara Plus School and Anglo-School in Marrakech (Morocco), the Holy Cross Convent Primary School in Windhoek (Namibia), and the EBIS – Egypt British International School in Cairo (Egypt). This allowed us to hear directly from children about their everyday lives, what is important to them, and what we have in common.
We also explored countries and gathered knowledge about Morocco, Namibia, and Egypt, and one class even built its own dream city model — with parks, safe paths, and ideas for how cities can become child-friendly and sustainable.
This newspaper is like a journey around the world—but from our perspective. Enjoy reading, discovering, and thinking further!
